The Lions of St. Joseph Island Club has been growing again. They kicked off the new year by inducting 3 more new members. Club President, Lion Mike Trainor inducted the members and the whole club welcomed them to the wonderful world of Lionism.
St Joseph Lions Tree Lighting Donation
The St. Joseph Island Lions Club attended the annual, Mathews Memorial Hospital Association tree lighting ceremony. Every year we read the names of Lions members no longer with us and illuminate a light for each one. We also made our annual donation of $500.00 to the Mathews Memorial Hospital Association. We also took the opportunity to also present MMHA with the funds raised from our 4th Annual Witches Dance of $2400.00.
St. Joseph Island Lions Years of Service
Like every club, each year members receive their chevrons for years of service. It was a special presentation this year for the St. Joseph Island’s Lions club as one of their charter members received his 50 year award. Lion Chuck Bodley should have received this award in 2022, but due to Covid and health issues, this presentation was delayed by 2 years so he is really celebrating his 52nd year. The 50 year chevron was presented by Lion Charles Nelson, who was also a founding member of the club. Lion Ray Stortini received his 45 year pin a great achievement these days with members coming and going in clubs.
Congratulations to all of the members at this wonderful club for all of your dedicated years of service.
St Joseph Island Lions Rock n the Island
It was the 2nd annual “Rock n the Island dance” held on St. Joseph’s Island hosted by the Lions. This event helps to raise money to support local area community services. Money was raised through ticket sales, prize draws, bar sales and sponsorship. The support from the Island community is outstanding, with over 60 local businesses sponsoring or donating gifts and prizes. Tickets to the event were sold out in one day!
The St. Joseph Island Lions raised $18,570.60 with each of the beneficiaries receiving $3714.12. The proceeds of the event went to support Richards Landing Children’s Library, Hilton Union Library and Richards Landing Public Library, St. Joseph Island Museum and the Jocelyn House of History Museum.
What an amazing group of Lions to raise this much money in only their 2nd year for the event. As per the Lions “The hard work of our volunteers and the generosity of our community makes this all possible!” Here’s to next year and another successful event.
St. Joseph Islands Lions Fun Day
The St. Joseph Island Lions Club in conjunction with the St. Joseph Island Hunters and Anglers, hosted a free Family Fun Day. A fun filled day of Archery lessons, Family sled races, snow painting and snow shoeing. The venue was provided by the Hunters and Anglers, as well as prizes. The Lions Club served free hotdogs, hot chocolate and coffee.
A great partnership between the Lions and the Hunters and Anglers to provide a lot of fun for the community. The event was well attended! A great big thank you to all the volunteers from both clubs!
St. Joseph Island Lions Members Celebrate 15 Years
St. Joseph Island member Lion Dianne Young celebrated her 15th year in Lions. Zone Chair Lion Deborah Kidd presented her with her chevron at the meeting. Lion John Atkins is also to receive a chevron but could not make the meeting that night. Congratulations to both Lions and here’s to another 15 years of service.
