Lion Hedi and Tinky at Information Booth for Sault Ste Marie Lions Club

Lion Hedi and her canine vision dog Tinky were manning the table at the Lions Club Information Booth held at the Station Mall in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. An important part of Lions nowadays is to get the word out about Lions and our projects that we do. Lion Hedi got to educate people about canine vision and the great work that the Lions do. Good work Sault Ste. Marie Lions.

District A5 Lions has always been a big supporter of Camp Huronda, one of the Diabetes camps in Ontario.  Many of our clubs are also big supporters of the CTV Lions Children’s Christmas Telethon.  When the clubs found out that Camp Huronda needed major repairs after 2 years being shut down, our Telethon stepped up to the plate.  To support the children in our area that attend the camp, the Telethon made a donation of $10,000.00 to help with much needed repairs.  Congratulations to all of the telethon supporters and Lions clubs for their generous support.

Whitefish Lions Community Cleanup

The Whitefish Lions have had a long time relationship with R.H. Murray Public School. As part of the collaboration between the groups, the students from grade 7 & 8 joined the Lions to pick up garbage along almost 2 miles of roadway. Thank you to Principal Chris Bourre and R.H. Murray Public School and all who assisted! We want to thank also the City of Greater Sudbury for providing us with the bags, safety apparel and picking up the full garbage bags, Leuschen’s Transport for providing the school bus and Christine Giblin for driving the bus.

Powasson Lions Pancake Breakfast

The Lions are coming out of hibernation. Many of our Clubs have not been meeting in person due to the  pandemic and the age of our members. Well, Powasson Lions held a pancake breakfast to celebrate after a long hiatus. Not only pancakes were on the menu, so was bacon, ham, sausage, eggs, toast, juice and in case you ate too much, coffee to wake you up. The community came out to support their Lions and everyone enjoyed getting together once again.

Minnow Lake Lions Build Garden Beds

The Minnow Lake Lions club obtained a grant for the City of Sudbury to build garden beds.  This is part of a community initiative open to all organizations that wish to take part.  Minnow Lake Lions Club got enough supplies to build 8 elevated garden beds.  Members started in early May to build the beds.  After the prototype was constructed, the rest quickly were built.  Next came the soil and planting.  It took approximately 100 hours to do all the hard work.  Now with a little help from Mother Nature and club members, we hope to have a bumper crop to help our even more people.  Who knew we had so many “green thumbs” in our club.

Sault Ste Marie Lions Trunk & Treasure Event

The Sault Ste. Marie Lions Club held a Trunk and Treasures community Event in the parking lot of the Moose Lodge. Lions baked goods, organized, donated and sold items at the event. In addition, members of the general public also set up their trunks at the unique community yard sale. It was a wonderful day and the Lions enjoyed being with one another. All of the monies raised will go back to the community.  What a great way for the Lions to get back out in the community and make their presence known after a long co-vid isolation.
