Passing of a Giant in Lionism

Few can say they were as completely engaged in Lionism as PDG PCC Lion Gerry Albert. He personified Lionism. Gerry recommended every Lion spend at least 15 minutes per day learning about Lions. He felt Lionism was the means by which we could better our communities, be better employees and strengthen our character. And there’s no doubt about it, he was quite a character!

Lion Gerry passed away August 12th, in the early morning hours, but, his legacy lives on; in the CNIB Eye Van Tour, the Eye Care Centre, the RET Cam project and many others. Without his efforts on these projects, they may not have been successful.

While Lion Gerry called the Sudbury Lions Club and District A5 home, he spent many years working for Lions International, travelling throughout Canada and some of the US to start Clubs and strengthen existing Clubs. Many Clubs can testify to his sponsorship of their Club. It’s pretty safe to say, there isn’t a Club in the District for which Gerry didn’t have an affinity.

At 93, he was still a mentor, guide and leader who could be contacted anytime. Thank you Lion Gerry for all you did. You have earned your rest!
