The Minnow Lake Lions have always tried to help those who need a hand up and that tradition is continuing. Donations were made to several local organizations that deal with helping low income and the homeless in the Sudbury area. The New Hope Outreach Services, also known as the Samaritan Centre, owns the building that houses several services in our downtown core. In addition, they provide a place for the homeless to access free telephones, internet usage, once a week hairdressing services, mental health counseling, job counseling and income tax filing. Also operating out of this centre are the Blue Door Kitchen and the Elgin Street Mission. The Blue Door Kitchen provides lunches Monday to Friday, while the Elgin Street Mission provides breakfast and dinner 365 days a year.
These amazing groups work each and every day with the most vulnerable in our community. The Lions motto is “WE SERVE” but there are also others that do the same. Thanks to the Minnow Lake Lions and other Lions clubs, these groups will be able to continue to serve.
