SPCA Gets Donation from the Minnow Lake Lions

The SPCA of Sudbury is a wonderful organization that works hard to get every dog and cat in their possession adopted to a loving home.  Your reporter adopted one of these cats last September and have not regretted it.  The Minnow Lake Lions also wanted to help out these vulnerable animals with a $1,000.00 donation.  This money will go a long way helping to give the animals in their care the food, shelter and love until they can find their forever home.  As you can see, there are currently a couple of playful puppies waiting for a home.  The Lion club not only helps people, but the littlest members of our community.

Minnow Lake Lions Help Out Our Outreach Program

The Minnow Lake Lions believe in helping out those who are the most vulnerable in our community.  The Red Coats are an organization that goes out onto the streets and helps those who need it most.  They provide clothing, snacks, deliver meals from soup kitchens, minor medical and sometimes they just are there to listen.  This can be the most valuable of all the services they offer to someone who is alone, scared or just has given up on life.  The money donated by the Lions will go towards helping them keep their van on the road and supplies to help their clients.  Thanks to all of the amazing work that both the Lions and the Red Coats do each day.

Minnow Lake Lions Give to Those in Need

The Minnow Lake Lions have always tried to help those who need a hand up and that tradition is continuing.  Donations were made to several local organizations that deal with helping low income and the homeless in the Sudbury area.  The New Hope Outreach Services, also known as the Samaritan Centre, owns the building that houses several services in our downtown core.  In addition, they provide a place for the homeless to access free telephones, internet usage, once a week hairdressing services, mental health counseling, job counseling and income tax filing.  Also operating out of this centre are the Blue Door Kitchen and the Elgin Street Mission.  The Blue Door Kitchen provides lunches Monday to Friday, while the Elgin Street Mission provides breakfast and dinner 365 days a year.

These amazing groups work each and every day with the most vulnerable in our community.  The Lions motto is “WE SERVE” but there are also others that do the same.  Thanks to the Minnow Lake Lions and other Lions clubs, these groups will be able to continue to serve.

More Awards for Our Capreol and Minnow Lake Lions Clubs

The Capreol Lions Club presented a Melvin Jones Fellowship to Lion Richard Clouthier at a recent meeting with Zone 47N Chair Lion Jeanne Lachance.  Lion Richard is always ready to help out with anything and this award is well deserved.

The Minnow Lake Lions presented a Melvin Jones Fellowship to Lion Joan Kutchaw.  Lion Joan has been on many committees and has been a secretary for the club several times.  Where it be a roadside clean-up, the garden, or helping out the community, she is always there to work.

Another Minnow Lake member, Lion Leanne Furchner was awarded a Progressive Melvin Jones Fellowship.  I don’t think that there is anything this wonderful lady hasn’t done.  Well, we keep trying to get her to run for District Governor, but no luck so far.  🙂  She has been involved with many conventions , Cabinet Secretary, club Secretary, Membership Chair, many committees in the club and the 1st female member of the Minnow Lake Lions Club.  She helped pave the way for those of us after her.  Congratulations to both Lions Joan and Leanne on these recognitions.
