The Walden Lions presented a Melvin Jones Fellowship award to a long-time member, Lion Brian Doherty, at their Christmas dinner. Lion Brian has been a member since 1975 and will be celebrating his 50th year next year. At the ripe young age of 85, he has spent most of his life volunteering in the community. He was a coach for Minor Hockey and Girls Softball, he started the Cubs and Scouts in the Lively area. He helped to build a playground, volunteered with the Walden Irish Army Cadet Corps and was a timekeeper for the high school Hawks hockey team. He also brought the Neighborhood Watch program through the Lions club into the community and it is still running today. Lion Brian has been and still is an active member of the Walden Lions and works at whatever functions he can with his big smile and love of helping. For all of this community support, the Lions decided to honour Lion Brian with the Melvin Jones Fellowship. Congratulations to Lion Brian and thank you for all of the years of helping your community.
